Will Rheumatoid Arthritis Nodules Go Away?

Reviewed on 8/4/2022

Ask the experts

Will the nodules that occur as a result of RA disappear over time? One on my elbow, and another just appeared on my foot inside.

Doctor's response

Rheumatoid nodules do sometimes spontaneously, and slowly come and go over time. They can also be annoying and can even become infected. The locations you have described are very common, as are the fingers.

Treatment of rheumatoid nodules includes avoiding irritating trauma to the nodule, local cortisone injections, and surgical removal. You should discuss the best options for you with your doctor.
