What Are The Side Effects of Lipitor on a Fetus?

Ask the experts

My husband has been taking Lipitor for 3 years. We are planning to have a baby and my concern is that his cardiologist told him that he must stop taking  Lipitor for at least 3 months if we want to have a baby because in a very recent studies, they have found that even if the husband is taking the medication, it causes malformation of babies. What should we do?

Doctor's response

Drugs in this class may be harmful to the fetus if taken during pregnancy.  I am not aware of data that says that the male has to discontinue therapy for 3 months.  Please ask you physician for the information.
