Viewer Question:
I use the stair stepper at the gym everyday.  My feet (both) go numb after about 8 minutes.  When I stop exercising, feeling returns to normal.  I bought expensive shoes that fit my feet very well, but after exercising, my feet hurt so bad.  What could this be?  What kind of doctor should I see?

Doctor's Response:

Numbness in both feet with exercise that is relieved by rest could indicate irritation of nerves in the lower back or in the feet.  It could also be caused by poor circulation to the feet.  Discuss your symptoms with your doctor.  A neurologist is a specialist in evaluating nerve disorders.

Thank you for your question.
