The American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics says parents should:
- Create strong, healthy habits at home that will influence your child's behavior outside home.
- While dining out as a family, teach your child how to eat mindfully and slowly, and select healthy menu choices.
- Help build your child's self-esteem so he or she can handle scrutiny from friends. Praise your child for making good decisions, and encourage open communication about what goes on with friends.
