After graduating from St. Louis University School of Medicine, he completed his Internal Medicine residency and Rheumatology fellowship at the University of California, Irvine. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology.

Proposita: A female through whom a family medically comes to light (is first ascertained). Also called the proband or index case.

The male counterpart of a proposita is a propositus.
