Causes of nasopharyngeal cancer

While the exact cause of nasopharyngeal cancer is not known, risk factors for developing the condition include Asian ancestry, infection with the Epstein-Barr virus, and drinking large amounts of alcohol. While it typically causes infectious mononucleosis, the Epstein-Barr virus has been associated with certain cancers such as nasopharyngeal cancer and some lymphomas.
