Nevoid basal cell carcinoma syndrome affects many areas of the body and means you have an increased risk of developing various cancerous and noncancerous tumors. Also called Gorlin syndrome, patients typically begin developing basal cell carcinomas during adolescence or early adulthood on the back, chest and face. The number can vary per individual with some never developing any while others may develop thousands of these cancers.
