How does stress affect tinnitus?
Doctor's response
Tinnitus is the sensation of ringing, buzzing, or other noises in the ears when there is no external source of the noise. There are many causes of tinnitus, including (but not limited to) exposure to loud noises, ear injuries, allergies, high or low blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid disease, and medication use.
Many people who suffer from tinnitus report that emotional stress worsens their symptoms. Although it may exacerbate the problem, psychological stress alone is not a known cause of tinnitus.
