Dr. Rosen is a Board Certified Dermatologist. She received a Bachelor of Science in Allied Health Sciences from the Medical College of Georgia and received her Medical Degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. She completed an internship in Family Medicine and then began her residency in Dermatology at MUSC where she served as Chief Resident her final year. Her training was under the Chairmanship of Dr. Richard Dobson, who is known as one of the top dermatologists of his time. Dr. Rosen has now been in private practice for more than 20 years. She served on the clinical faculty of the Department of Dermatology at the Medical University of South Carolina for 18 years. She is currently on staff at the Roper St. Francis Hospitals. Dr. Rosen has been a Diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology since 1989. She is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the South Carolina Medical Association, the South Carolina Dermatology Association and the Charleston Medical Society. She continues to train Family Medicine residents and Physician Assistant students in dermatology while they are doing their clinical rotations. Dr. Rosen also has an interest in alternative and integrative medical treatments. If you have tried multiple medical treatments for a condition without getting satisfactory results, or if you are leery of continuing on a medication which may have unforseen side effects, Dr. Rosen would be happy to discuss supplements and simple dietary changes which may significantly help your condition. Dr. Rosen and her providers offer thorough and complete full body skin exams. They feel a quick glance at the skin is not adequate. “The majority of skin cancers and melanomas we treat are found as a result of the detailed skin exams we perform. Most patients are unaware that these cancerous lesions are even present.” A common misconception that patients have is that skin cancers only develop on sun exposed skin. This is not true, particularly for melanomas. They can occur anywhere on the skin, including under bathing suit covered areas. “I strongly recommend complete skin exams for my patients in an attempt to find and treat skin cancers in their earliest stages. Melanoma is 100% curable if found in its earliest stage, but unfortunately is often fatal if left undetected until its later stages.” If you would like to learn more about the three most common types of skin cancers, please visit the American Academy of Dermatology website link. Also, don’t forget that sun protection is important for preventing cancer. Not only does Dr. Rosen recommend using a sunblock, but she also encourages her patients who have sun damage to use topical retinoids and topical antioxidants. These products together help reverse and prevent further sun damage. For your convenience, Dr. Rosen carries several brands of these products which she considers to be highly effective. Most of these can only be purchased through a doctor’s office or a medical spa. We provide a range of cosmetic dermatology and skin rejuvenation services. There are less expensive ways to achieve results that many think you can only get from expensive laser treatments. If you would like to look younger longer without the expense of lasers or risks of cosmetic surgery, we are happy to discuss with you other less expensive ways to achieve excellent results. These include Botox®, Xeomin, Dysport and fillers such as Juvederm® and Restylane®, mild and moderate chemical peels, spider vein treatments and the use of certain topical anti-aging products. Often, a combination of these treatments, which have few risks and minimal recovery time, can provide excellent results. We now offer hair removal with our LightSheer Desire laser.
