Obstetrics & Gynecology

Overview

My colleagues and I designed My Doctor Online to make it easier for you to take care of your health care needs. We’ve included a variety of superior online programs and health information that we have evaluated or written ourselves. Providing you with only the highest quality materials demonstrates our commitment to giving you the best quality care. Background I grew up in a wonderfully diverse household where different cultures and languages were celebrated. My parents met in San Francisco as newly arrived immigrants in the late 1940’s. Their origins, from Switzerland and from Nicaragua, were unlikely predictors of the happy and long term marriage that followed. Our home was always filled with their relatives and friends from all parts of the globe. My upbringing was a great opportunity to see first-hand how cultural attitudes and beliefs affect the way people approach life, and how they approach their health. I’m committed to practicing medicine in a style that respects the personal and cultural beliefs about health and wellness that each individual brings to our encounter. I relish my role as a teacher, providing my patients the information that helps them choose the medical treatment that is best suited to their needs and desires. I was drawn to Ob-Gyn when I was a third year medical student on my Labor and Delivery rotation at Harbor General, a county hospital affiliated with UCLA School of Medicine. The first delivery I watched was performed by a new pediatric intern. She looked nearly as surprised as the mother when the tumultuous waves of labor were precipitously replaced by a pink, wriggling baby girl who greeted us all with her lusty cry. There was something transfixing about the shift of emotions in the room with that cry. It drew me in then, and continues to amaze me more than twenty years later. The most valuable and rewarding element of my clinical practice has always been the relationships I’ve developed with my patients – whether in the labor suite, the OR, or in the office. I currently have an office-based practice in Ob-Gyn, and enjoy treating a wide variety of general Ob-Gyn conditions. I also have a special interest in cervical cancer screening and dysplasia. You might have even received a link to my Pap video reminding you to stay up to date on your own screening! In addition to my clinical practice, I enjoy administrative roles in our medical center as the Chief of Medical Legal Affairs, and the Assistant Chief of Quality. These are venues that help me promote a culture of patient safety as the top priority in our medical center. I greatly enjoy each of the various hats I wear at Kaiser Santa Rosa! Credentials
