Dr. Robert Guirguis is a pain management physician and physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist in our Pinellas County location. He is double board-certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the American Board of Pain Medicine. He uses a wide range of minimally invasive procedures to treat pain disorders and restore a patient’s function. His special interests include chronic pain, fibromyalgia, sports medicine, arthritic disorders, spasticity, electrodiagnostics and discogenic diagnostic procedures. He has additional training in performing kyphoplasty, a process that relieves pain from spinal compression. “Functional restoration and pain relief are processes which involve the integration of a team coming together to serve the patient,” Dr. Guirguis says. Functional restoration is vital for patients with traumatic brain injury, stroke and certain genetic disorders. Dr. Guirguis graduated from Rutgers University and earned his doctorate from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in Long Island. He completed an internal medicine rotating internship at Union Hospital in New Jersey and his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at UMDNJ through Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center in Edison, N.J. During residency training, he published several papers on such topics as spinal cord injury recovery, post-stroke functional recovery, and interventional treatments of spasticity. Dr. Guirguis went on to complete an interventional spine pain medicine fellowship at Florida Spine Institute. While there, he authored the interventional cervical chapter of a pain medicine textbook. He comes to Physician Partners of America from Tampa Pain Relief Centers, where he was medical director of the Hillsborough County practice, as well as medical advisory chair of Armenia Surgery Center.
