Thomas Large, MD, has joined Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC and looks forward to the opportunity to help you understand and treat your orthopedic injuries. A decorated military veteran, Dr. Large has also won several professional teaching and research awards, and is an advocate of improving the availability of health care in developing countries through education. Before joining Mission Health, Dr. Large completed two tours of duty in Afghanistan and was chief of orthopedic surgery at Travis Air Force Base in California. He completed prestigious trauma fellowships in Germany and Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, and was the third orthopedic surgeon for a population of 3 million at Bedford Orthopedic Hospital in Mthatha, South Africa. His specialties include: trauma/fractures of the extremities and pelvis, arthoscopic surgery and deformity, reconstructive surgery including joint replacement. Dr. Large strives to provide relaxed and compassionate care, information tailored to your needs and injury, and if needed, technically outstanding surgery to maximize your potential for an excellent outcome.
