Alan C. Baum, M.D. is considered among the leading refractive surgeons in Harris County and the surrounding area. He has performed thousands of refractive procedures beginning with RK and progressing with technology to PRK and LASIK. Dr. Baum is a member of the Texas Medical Association serving as Chairman of the Board of Trustees and is currently President of the Texas Medical Association. In addition, he is a former President of the Texas Ophthalmology Association. Dr. Baum has served as Chief of Staff at Memorial Southeast Hospital and has been the Ophthalmology Section Chairman at both the Memorial Southeast and Southwest Hospitals. Dr. Baum is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the American Medical Association and Houston Ophthalmology Society. Dr. Baum received his undergraduate degree from The University of Texas at Austin and completed medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston where he was awarded the Ashbel Smith Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1999. He completed his residency of Texas Medical School at Houston where he served as Chief Resident of the House staff.
