Michael E. Hettinger, M.D., is a board certified ophthalmologist who specializes in refractive surgery, cataract and lens implant surgery, and corneal disorders. His undergraduate degree is from Rhodes College and his medical degree is from the University of Tennessee in Memphis where he graduated with honors. Residency training in ophthalmology was at the University of Alabama, Birmingham. He completed surgical and research fellowships in anterior segment surgery and corneal disorders at Harvard Medical School. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a fellow in the American College of Surgeons. He is co-medical director of the Midwest Transplant Network Eye Bank and on their Board of Directors. He is a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, International Society of Refractive Surgery, Castroviejo Corneal Society, and American Academy of Ophthalmology. Nationally, Dr. Hettinger is actively involved with the Eye Bank Association of America, serving as chairman-elect, and will serve as chairman of the Board of Directors beginning June, 2002. He is a recipient of the American Academy of Ophthalmology National Honor Award and is listed in The Best Doctors in America.
