Overview

Dr. Bob Oatfield joined the Heart & Lung Clinic in September 1988. A California native, Dr. Oatfield attended Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon, and received his M.D. degree from Loyola University in Chicago. He did his internship, residency, and first year of cardiac fellowship at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, followed by a second year of cardiac fellowship at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. Following fellowship, he was Chief of Cardiology at Martin Army Hospital, Ft. Benning, Georgia, and then returned to private practice in Los Angeles for two years before moving to Bismarck. Dr. Oatfield is board certified in Internal Medicine and the subspecialty of Cardiovascular Diseases. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, Society of Cardiac Angiography & Interventions, the American College of Physicians, the American College of Chest Physicians, the American College of Angiology, and the American Heart Association Council on Clinical Cardiology. He is a Professor Emeritus of Medicine with the UND School of Medicine and was Southwest AHEC Professor of the Year for 1983, 1985, 1988, 1989 and 1993. He is also a Professor of Medicine with the USD School of Medicine. Col. Oatfield is a retired flight surgeon with the North Dakota Army National Guard. He is licensed to practice in North Dakota, South Dakota, California, Alabama, Minnesota, Nebraska, Iowa and Georgia. Past president of the American Heart Association Dakota Affiliate. Dr. Oatfield also does Cardiac Interventions in Ecuador.
