Swapna Devanna, MD, a hospitalist who cares for inpatients at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Midwestern Regional Medical Center (Midwestern), believes it is important to form a solid doctor-patient relationship with her patients. "It is very important to have a good relationship with my patients because it builds trust," says Dr. Devanna. As a hospitalist, Dr. Devanna takes on the role of a primary care physician for patients who are hospitalized during treatment at our hospital. She helps coordinate inpatients general care and sees that their medical needs are continually met. Dr. Devanna is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She is also a member of the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians and the Illinois State Medical Society. Licensed in the United States as well as India, Dr. Devanna completed her internal medicine residency at Southern Illinois University, where she was chief of resident. Dr. Devanna supports the patient empowered care model at CTCA. "I believe in trusting the patient and encouraging them to make healthy decisions for themselves after discovering their medical problems and treatment options," says Dr. Devanna.
