Ask the experts
Can statins cause depression?
Doctor's response
Depression is not a commonly seen side effect with statins or any other cholesterol-lowering drugs. However, other drugs used to treat cardiac conditions, such as beta blockers, can aggravate depression. Definitely consult with your physician about any concerns you may have about your medication, and never discontinue taking any medications without doing so first.
