My 10 yr. old son may have an ulcer. No X-ray has been taken yet. He has severe pain in his stomach seconds after taking Maalox. Also, his pain after eating lasts for a few hours on and off all day. Can you advise me? This started while we were on vacation out West in July. It has gotten worse lately. He has no pain if he eats sugar cookies.
Chronic severe abdominal pain should be evaluated by a doctor (preferably a pediatric gastroenterologist). Ulcer of the stomach is only one of the many causes of abdominal pain. Other potential causes include parasites, constipation, irritable bowel, Crohn's diseases, etc. Accurate diagnosis is key to optimal treatment.
