USES: This medication is used with diet and exercise to improve cholesterol levels.
HOW TO USE: Take this medication by mouth exactly as prescribed, usually after meals. Do not take this more often or increase the dose without your doctor's approval. Your cholesterol level will not decrease faster but the risk of side effects will be increased.
SIDE EFFECTS: Headache, flushing, feeling of warmth, nausea, heartburn, bloating or diarrhea may occur as your body adjusts to the medication. If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: chest pain, rapid or pounding heart rate, weakness, blurred vision, skin rash, muscle cramps, vomiting. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: liver problems, heart disease, history of ulcers, gout, diabetes, bleeding problems, low blood pressure, any allergies. This medication should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known if this medication appears in breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take, including: blood pressure medications, heart medications, fibrates (e.g., gemfibrozil, fenofibrate), "statins" (e.g., lovastatin, atorvastatin). Limit intake of alcohol while taking this medication. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
