Patient Comments: Ulcerative Colitis - Surgery

What type of surgery did you have for ulcerative colitis? What was the outcome?

Comment from: Valerie, 35-44 Female (Patient) Published: October 02

I have had two bowel resections for ulcerative colitis. First due to decay in a portion of small intestine, probably due to a rupture related to the ulcers in the lining in the colon. Second due to an obstruction related to scar tissue build up and inflammation from the colitis. Ongoing treatment with anti-inflammatory and pain medications and periodic medications to treat nausea and diarrhea. I have suffered with the condition for approximately 12 years.
