Optometrist know plenty about toxoplasmosis. I was diagnosed at 10 years old. Both eyes were affected. The parasite damanged my retinas pretty close to my cornea. I have big holes in both eyes but lucky my vision wasn't blocked all the way. I get random paranoia thinking it might reactivate but I know the signs now and can watch for it. The sooner you get treated the better. I am pregnant now and the doctors don't seem too concerned but I sure am. My suggestion is get educated about this because you definitely do not want to deal with this or pass it on to your baby. And don't panic, there is treatment and therefore hope. Not everyone gets it as bad as some of us. Was this comment helpful?Yes

I was diagnosed with toxoplasmosis when I was three years old. I got it from a stray cat. When I was diagnosed, I had two lymph nodes under my jaw, and as result I had to have surgery for the removal. One faded away back into my body and the other was removed. I was told to take extra precaution for when I have children so I don't pass it on. It makes me so nervous knowing that' there is a possibility that my innocent child could receive that from me. I haven't had any issues since my surgery in 1995 and I'm hoping my child nor I have to deal with it again. However I don't know if it's possible to reappear. Was this comment helpful?Yes

My mother was infected with toxoplasmosis when she was two weeks pregnant with me, and I was infected through the fetus and was born with a ventricular septal defect (VSD) with mirror image. Be careful around cats when pregnant. She is now having signs of the infection again. It's been 33 years since she was infected, but in the last month the blurry vision with black spots, migraines, and serious confusion at times have been making her life miserable. I am a 39 year old female in very good health. I was a healthy 18 year old when I noticed large black spots in my vision. After a number of scans and tests I was diagnosed with toxoplasmosis. Was this comment helpful?Yes

I am 41 year old fit Aussie female. I was infected with toxoplasmosis at the age of about 17 from either the stray cat, or eating raw steaks my mother would leave on the bench. Back then I was sick for almost 12 months. I have two teenage daughters now. My eyesight is deteriorating to a blurry state. I have had my lenses checked, however I wonder if it is somewhat related. Do optometrists know enough about this disease? Was this comment helpful?Yes

I have congenital ocular toxoplasmosis in the left eye. I am finding out that my depression, hearing loss, adult ADD and other symptoms may all be due to the toxoplasmosis and brain lesions. I have a mild case, and it still has its challenges.
