Patient Comments: Tinnitus - Causes

What caused your tinnitus?

Comment from: parisienne, 65-74 Female (Patient) Published: July 11

I've had very mild tinnitus for most of my adult life, and it has hardly bothered me. Six weeks ago I was on a train journey and the train went into a tunnel at high speed. This caused a blocked feeling, which normally I would expect to right itself within a few hours. However, the blocked sensation persists and I'm aware of irritating tinnitus, as a high-pitched noise akin to the whistle when you switch off a TV. I have tried oil drops and earache drops, but they make no difference. Will probably see a doctor if it doesn't clear spontaneously.

I caused my tinnitis by firing pistols and not wearing ear protection. This occured at age of 30 and I am now 65. I can hear "it" as I type this note. At least I only have it in one ear.
