I would brush my hair back with my hand and it felt like someone was pulling my hair. I developed blisters right above my ear, in the hairline, on my lip, and inside my mouth. My jaw tightened up and it became hard to talk or swallow. Tylenol, ibuprophen, Aleve, and even oxycodone wouldn't calm the pain. I hope it goes away. See a doctor right away. My daughter appeared to have chicken pox in the past year. Today I have a similar rash on my neck and arms. I was wondering if chicken pox can reappear. Was this comment helpful?Yes

I am currently being treated for shingles for the sixth time. I had my first case in 2001 when I was 36 years old. I had a severe case of chicken pox when I was 4 years old. Each time I get shingles it is worse than the last. My doctor is convinced it is stress related. The anti-viral medication simply makes me sick, as does Neurontin for the nerve pain. I pretty much have the routine down pat by now, but honestly, if I were a horse I would have been shot by now. Was this comment helpful?Yes

I had shingles after having had the vaccine. My shingles case was mild affecting only the right side of my face. Treatment included prednisone and Valtrex. The day I finished medication, I felt extremely tired. A week later I was in ICU with Guillian-Barre Syndrome. Almost three months later I am still out of work. GBS is triggered by bacteriological or viral infection creating an auto-immune situation where the white cells attack and destroy the peripheral nervous system. Was this comment helpful?Yes

My mother experienced an outbreak of shingles which is related to Chicken pox at an early stage of life. Tradition medication does not work for her. However homeopathic medication does work for her, Oil of Oreganol by North American (brand). Was this comment helpful?Yes

My first episode of shingles began with a severe headache on the right side of my head. I had sensitivity to light and my right eye was tearing frequently. Before long, I felt itchy painful bumps in my mouth on the right side of my palate and inside my right ear. I also had severe pain at the roots of my teeth on the right side. In and outside of my nose had blisters too. A few blisters appeared on the side of my face and on my scalp. I went to the ER and got the diagnosis. I was prescribed 800 mg of Acyclovir 5 times a day for 10 days. And Prednisone and Lortab for pain. After a couple of days on the antiviral, no new blisters were forming. It took about 2 weeks for all the blisters to heal, but the residual pain and headache lasted another 2 weeks. The side effects of Acyclovir caused a lot of stomach pain and nausea. I had been told that a person can only get Shingles once in their lifetime. That is untrue. I have been treated for shingles 6 times in 5 years. It flares up when I am under an extreme amount of stress and also if I do not get enough rest. Was this comment helpful?Yes

I'm 22 and was just diagnosed with shingles. My symptoms were what I thought just a cluster of pimples on the right side of my forehead and then moved to the right eyebrow. The constant burning and itching is enough to disturb you throughout your whole night and most of your day. The pain is consistent. My doctor started me on acyclovir, a steroid pack, and tramadol for the pain (which works wonders). I also found relief with a cold ice pack on the infected spots. I also found myself with no appetite. I'm only on day three and still in a great amount of pain. They say time heals everything. Let's hope so!
