What are bile duct cancer symptoms and signs?

The initial symptoms of bile duct cancer occur because of inability of bile to drain normally from the liver where it is produced. This causes liver inflammation (hepatitis). Symptoms include yellow coloring of the skin (jaundice), itching, abdominal pain, bloating, and weight loss. Low-grade fever may be present, and there can be darkening in the color of urine and stool.

Unfortunately, bile duct tumors may not cause any symptoms until they have grown in size and the cancer has spread (metastasized) from beyond its original location. Abdominal pain is often a late symptom and is usually located in the right upper quadrant of the belly and may be associated with a tender, enlarged liver.

My mom was diagnosed with bile duct cancer on April 1 2009. It had already metastasized to her bones. The only symptom she had was hip pain which ended up being a large tumor on her bone. Her diagnosis was terminal. We were told this is a fast growing cancer and in a week there were 5 more tumors on her spine. She still chose radiation and chemotherapy but she never got to the chemotherapy for hope for a miracle. The radiation burned her insides so bad it made things even worse for her. She passed August 1 2009. All I can say is to try and stay on top of your health by eating healthy and maintaining a normal weight along with annual tests. If anything is caught early enough there is always hope.

My symptoms prior to diagnosis of cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer) were right shoulder pain, very slight jaundice, raised LFT (liver function test) levels, hiccups, itching of scalp and later hands, feet and abdomen, fatigue and a feeling that something was wrong with me.
