What are the signs and symptoms of microcephaly?

Depending on the severity of the accompanying syndrome, children with microcephaly may have:

  • delayed motor functions and speech,
  • facial distortions,
  • dwarfism or short stature,
  • hyperactivity,

My son is almost 9 months and has microcephaly and has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy. He has eating and swallowing difficulties and gastrointestinal problems like severe reflux and poor weight gain. He has yet to achieve his milestones such as turning and rolling, sitting upright and holding objects like toys. He is on several different medications for his reflux and poor weight gain but no medication for the muscle spasms associated with the cerebral palsy. He does physical, occupational and speech therapies every week. We are still not sure what caused this but we are doing everything we can do to deal with this.

My daughter has microcephaly and cerebral palsy, she is now 28 years old. She has severe learning difficulties and also suffered epilepsy. She has been in remission for over ten years now for her seizures. We have just heard about low life expectancy and are freaking out about it as we weren't told about it when she was born. We have only heard about younger children having this.
