Medicare Drug Card Q and A (cont.)

MEMBER QUESTION:
Are the new prescription cards for seniors good in Canada?

SCALA-FOLEY:
No, they are not.

MEMBER QUESTION:
Will using prescription drug card affect other Medicare coverage?

SCALA-FOLEY:
Drugs that are already covered by Medicare, such as immunosupressor drugs, will not be covered by the discount cards. Other than that, the Medicare drug discount cards should not affect your Medicare coverage.

MEMBER QUESTION:
What happens if you apply for the $600 credit and are turned down but you think you qualify?

SCALA-FOLEY:
If you are turned down initially for the $600 credit, you can appeal. The company that is sponsoring the card you apply for should send you a letter with instructions as to how to get Medicare to review your enrollment form again.

MODERATOR:
Marisa, we are almost out of time. Do you have any final words of wisdom for us?

SCALA-FOLEY:
This can be a tough choice for people with Medicare and their families. Take your time, do your homework, and think about your own situation before choosing one of these cards.
