Viewer Question:I get stomach pain, above navel, that is like burning or gnawing an hour or so after I eat. Sometimes the pain is excrutiating. I also am having bloating of my intestines. This swelling is very uncomfortable. Every couple of days I get diarrhea. Mylanta helps but is not enough. The bloating is terrible!!
Doctor's Response:Although abdominal pain after meals often is caused by stomach acid-related diseases, for example, ulcers, it is not possible to diagnose the cause of abdominal pain solely on the basis of symptoms. Thus, pain after meals also can be due to obstruction of the intestine. Diagnosis becomes more complex when there are several symptoms, such as you have. We suggest that you visit your physician or a gastroenterologist so that appropriate testing can be done and an accurate diagnosis can be made.
Thank you for your question.
