Health Tip: When a Bite Isn't Right

(HealthDay News) -- A "bad bite," medically called malocclusion, occurs when the jaw becomes out of alignment due to crowded or crooked teeth.

The American Dental Association says these problems may result if the condition is left untreated in children:

  • Difficulty cleaning teeth and gums, potentially resulting in tooth decay and gum disease.
  • Unhealthy development of the jaw.
  • Increased risk of chips, fractures and abnormal wear among teeth that aren't properly aligned.
  • Speech and eating difficulties.
