Even though we commonly think of Hepatitis C as one virus, there really are different strains of hepatitis C virus. And these different strains are called different genotypes of Hepatitis C.

Dr. Edward Block:
That is right. There are at least three strains of hepatitis C virus that have very different responses to treatment.
