Health Tip: Factors that Increase Risk of Ovarian Cancer

(HealthDay News) -- About 3% of cancer cases that affect women are ovarian cancer, the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists notes.

The organization says the following factors increase a woman's risk of cancer of the ovary:

• Being 40 or older.
• Being white.
• Having never been pregnant, or having a first pregnancy at age 30 or older.
• Having a family history of colorectal, breast or ovarian cancer.
• Having had breast cancer yourself.
• Having gone through menopause at age 50 or older.
• Having taken fertility medication.
