(HealthDay News) -- Ulcerative colitis is a form of inflammatory bowel disease that can cause the large intestine to swell.

The American Academy of Family Physicians says certain foods can aggravate the condition, including:

• Dairy foods.
• Foods that are high in fiber, including vegetables and fruits.
• Drinks that are carbonated.
• Foods and drinks that contain caffeine.
• Alcoholic beverages.
