(HealthDay News) -- Many skin products that claim to help sun damage, wrinkles and other hallmarks of age include a class of chemical compound called alpha hydroxy acids.

The National Women's Health Information Center says some people who use these products have adverse reactions, which may include:

Excessive reddening.
Swollen skin, particularly around the eyes.
Blisters.
Burning.
Itching or rash.
Discolored skin.
Bleeding.
Increased risk of sunburn.
