Patient Comments: Salivary Gland Cancer - Treatment

What kinds of treatment, surgery, or therapy did you receive for salivary gland cancer?

Comment from: Mag, 65-74 Female (Patient) Published: July 15

I had cancer of the parotid gland 18 years ago. I had had 4 surgeries for the previous 20 years for benign tumors of the submandibular glands. The last had sat for 20 years. No one said if it sat that long, likely it would turn in to cancer. I had surgery and then radiation. For several years after I had frequent strong pain radiating down my neck. That left. I have had dental problems from the radiation. I've had to learn to swallow differently and have dry mouth but have been cancer free for 18 years now so am very grateful to the team of doctors I've had in the past. It had spread to at least one lymph gland;thus the radiation.
