GENERIC NAME: POTAS GUAICO/PHENYLEPHRINE/CODEINE/PROMETH - ORAL (poh-TASS-ee-um GWEYE-uh-koll/fen-ill-EFF-rin/KO-deen /pro-METH-uh-zeen)
USES: This combination medication contains an expectorant, cough suppressant, decongestant and an antihistamine-like agent to control a cough associated with a cold or allergies.
HOW TO USE: Take this medication by mouth as prescribed usually every 4 to 6 hours but no more than 4 times in a one day period. This medication is best taken with a full glass of water after a meal or snack. Take this medication as prescribed. Do not increase your dose or take this more often than directed. Long-term or excessive use may lead to dependency.
SIDE EFFECTS: Dizziness, drowsiness, headache, loss of appetite, nausea, constipation, dry mouth, blurred vision or anxiety may occur. If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: a slow pulse, mental confusion, mood changes, skin rash, breathing trouble. To avoid dizziness when rising from a seated or lying position, get up slowly. Also limit your intake of alcoholic beverages which will aggravate these effects. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
