What was the treatment for your polycystic ovarian syndrome?

I am 26 years old. I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 24. I have never had irregular periods. I do however have PMS symptoms all month. I have been put on metformin, Lexapro (for PMS mood swings) and Xanax for breakthrough anxiety (again for PMS symptoms). I have been heavy all of my life, however about 2 years ago I lost 60 lbs. In the past year I have gained back 46 of those lbs. it was quite rapid and now no matter what I do I cannot lose any weight. I see a personal trainer 2-3x weekly and also work out on my own. I cheat in my diet once in a while, and I do mean once in a while but the way I look, it seems like I eat cheeseburgers all day. It is so frustrating. I have tried every OTC diet pill on the market and even tried phentermine prescription which only rose by blood pressure. I have the staining of the skin, excessive facial hair, mild acne and the "stereotypical" PCOS body type - my weight is all around my hips. If anyone knows of any herbal or OTC medications that aid in weight loss please put it on the site. I am so frustrated, and so down on myself because of my weight. I was even considering surgery at one point.

I was diagnosed with PCOS about six years ago when my husband and I were struggling to get pregnant. I took Clomid and Actos, but nothing helped me to become pregnant. After about three years (not taking any medicine) I lost about 10 kg and after two months I was pregnant. So losing the weight definitely helped me. But my daughter is now 3, and we are struggling again to become pregnant.

I just found out I have PCOS today. My doctor wasn't too willing to share any info about this syndrome. My husband and I are trying to have a baby, and I had irregular periods before I went on birth control pills when I was 18. I'm 28 now and probably have always had PCOS. I have been off birth control for about eight months. My doctor put me on Clomid, Provera, and Metformin along with prenatal visits.

I was reading the comment on this page that states all women who have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome will have irregular or abnormal periods. That is not necessarily true. I have been diagnosed with this and have all symptoms listed above with the exception of abnormal periods. My diagnosis took several months and all other possibilities were looked at and excluded including thyroid.

I was diagnosed with PCOS about 4 years ago and if you look it up in a medical dictionary you will see a picture of me. I have all the textbook symptoms, except hair loss. That would be nice to have if it applied to all the hair on my face. I have struggled with my weight all my life and had horrible periods. Either periods lasting a month or a total absence of periods for months. I am a nurse and basically researched and diagnosed myself, took the info to my Gyno and he made it official with a ultrasound and some lab tests. I was on birth control for 12 years and that helped with the regularity of my periods, but not with the cramps and heavy flow. I recently stopped the birth control and am attempting to become pregnant with no results as of yet. I have discussed Clomid therapy with a number of physicians, but have not found anyone to prescribe it yet. My husband and I are praying and hoping for the best. If you are living this condition, keep a positive attitude and hope for the best.

I was diagnosed with pcos when I was 20. I went through two or three rounds of Provera and Clomid and did get pregnant. She was born June 98. They put me on Depo (you know just in case LOL) in Jan of 99 I was three days late for my shot and they would not give it to me until my next period. It never came and in May 99 I discovered I had become pregnant without the use for Clomid. I have two beautiful girls now. A few years ago some of the cysts ruptured, worst cramping and pain I can remember and I still have excess hair growth even after 6 laser treatments and use of vanica cream.

I am 22 years old and just found out that I have PCOS. Before the past year or two, my periods were regular. I have always been overweight, but when I started to grow facial hair and put on even more weight that would just NOT come off, I decided to look into possible solutions. Sure enough, I have PCOS. I have been put on the pill, which has gotten my cycle back to normal after only two months and Glucophage. I only started the Glucophage three days ago, so hopefully it will help!
