NEVIRAPINE SUSPENSION-ORAL, Viramune (cont.)

PRECAUTIONS: This medication should not be used if you have certain medical conditions. Before using this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: severe liver disease. Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: liver disease (including Hepatitis B or C infections), severe kidney disease, allergies (especially drug allergies). This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Nevirapine is excreted into breast milk. Because breast milk can transmit HIV, do not breast-feed.

DRUG INTERACTIONS: This drug is not recommended for use with: ketoconazole. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more details. Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription/herbal products you may use, especially of: antiarrhythmic drugs (e.g., amiodarone, disopyramide, lidocaine), anti-seizures drugs (e.g., carbamazepine, clonazepam), azole antifungals (e.g., fluconazole, itraconazole), calcium channel blockers (e.g., diltiazem, nifedipine), caspofungin, cimetidine, cisapride, corticosteroids (e.g., prednisone, hydrocortisone), cyclophosphamide, efavirenz, drugs which suppress the immune system (e.g., cyclosporine, tacrolimus), macrolide antibiotics (e.g., clarithromycin, erythromycin), methadone, certain migraine drugs (ergot alkaloids such as ergotamine), narcotic pain relievers (e.g., fentanyl), certain non-sedating antihistamines (e.g., astemizole, terfenadine), protease inhibitors (e.g., indinavir, lopinavir, saquinavir), rifamycins (e.g., rifampin, rifabutin), St. John's wort, triazolam, warfarin, zidovudine. This drug may interfere with the effectiveness of combination-type birth control pills. This can result in pregnancy. You may need to use an additional form of reliable birth control while using this medication. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for details. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
