USES: This medication reduces inflammation in the lungs. It is used in the treatment of chronic asthma.
HOW TO USE: This medication is inhaled into the lungs using a special inhaler device. To use the inhaler, shake the canister for a minute. Take a drink of water to moisten the throat. Place the inhaler mouthpiece two finger widths away from the mouth and tilt your head back. Depress the inhaler while taking a slow deep breath for 5 seconds. Hold your breath for 10 seconds to enable the drug to penetrate the lungs. Slowly breathe out. If two inhalations are prescribed, wait at least one minute between inhalations. To prevent dry mouth and hoarseness, rinse your mouth after each use. An alternate method of using this device is to place the mouthpiece into your mouth, close your lips around the mouthpiece and then inhale. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to help you choose the best method for you. Consult the patient instruction leaflet that comes with each package. This medication is best used at even intervals throughout the day and night. It is usually used two to four times a day. Do not increase your dose, use this more frequently or stop using this medication without first consulting your doctor.
SIDE EFFECTS: Dry or irritated throat, hoarseness, strange taste in the mouth, stomach upset or headache may occur as your body adjusts to the medication. If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: rash, sore throat, trouble speaking, coughing, wheezing, breathing trouble, chest pain. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
