GENERIC NAME: LEVOCABASTINE SPRAY - NASAL (lee-voh-cab-AS-teen)

USES: Levocabastine is a fast-acting antihistamine used to treat the symptoms of a condition called allergic rhinitis. Symptoms generally include sneezing, itchy nose, and runny nose. Antihistamines work by blocking the chemical (histamine) in your body that can cause these allergic symptoms.

HOW TO USE: Learn all preparation and usage instructions (e.g., priming the spray) in the product package. If any of the information is unclear, consult your pharmacist. Before each use, clear your nasal passages (i.e., blow your nose). Also, shake the bottle well before each dose. Spray this medication into each nostril usually two to four times daily; or as directed by your doctor. The dosage and length of treatment is based on your medical condition and response to therapy. Inform your doctor if your condition does not improve in 3 days.

SIDE EFFECTS: Nasal irritation may occur. If this effect persists or worsens, notify your doctor. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: nose bleed, swelling, rash, cough, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: kidney problems, any allergies. This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known if this medication passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medication you may use, especially: other nasal sprays. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. US residents can call the US national poison hotline at 1-800-222-1222. Canadian residents should call their local poison control center directly. Symptoms of overdose may include: drowsiness.

NOTES: Do not share this medication with others.

MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C).

When it occurs throughout the year, it is called "perennial allergic rhinitis." Rhinosinusitis is the medical term that refers to inflammation of the nasal lining as well as the lining tissues of the sinuses. This term is sometime used because the two conditions frequently occur together.
