Patient Comments: Laryngitis - Symptoms in Adults

What were your symptoms associated with laryngitis?

It all started with a very horrid sore throat. I then went to urgent care and was told I had an ear infection. I was put on antibiotics and was told my throat would probably not be cured by the medication if it is a viral thing. Anyway, last night, I woke up not able to swallow my own spit and ended up in the hospital. Then, I was told I had laryngitis. I can barely talk above a whisper and this is really unbearable throat pain. I've had strep before and it is up there with the pain. Anyway, I've tried everything. Hot tea with lemon and ginger, plenty of fluids, Motrin/Tylenol for the swelling/pain, and I've even been sleeping with a Vicks humidifier. In all honesty, none of this is really working. I'm thinking it's one of those things you just have to let your body fight off by itself. I can't wait to feel better.

It started out with a bad cough to the point I urinate and feel weak. Then all of the sudden I lost my voice. It's been over a month since I got laryngitis I still have my harsh voice and cough and thick mucus. Doctor diagnosed me with fluid in my lungs.

I contracted a flu last week from my mother, who had been sick. Soon after I had a sore throat, not a big deal but then my whole body began to ache and soon I was in bed for a day. The next morning my whole throat was so swollen I couldn't breathe or talk or swallow. I went to several doctors who misdiagnosed it. I finally found one and he gave me penicillin 500 mg 3 times a day, and advised bed rest and washing throat with salt water 4 times a day. He also gave painkiller Aleve, and a regimen of vitamins. I don't smoke, don't drink and work out religiously. This laryngitis is a tough one and can lead to all sorts of trauma in your life if you don't address it.

I had laryngitis for the 2nd time this year. I went to a doctor who gave me Panadol and Exylin but it's been a week now, I still have my constant irritating cough. It usually attacks during the resting hours. It has become worse for a week now and my voice still hasn't come back. I've tried already all remedies like tea with lemon, gargling with warm water and salt, eating citrus, eating ginger, having drinks high with vitamin C and lozenges; but still my voice is hoarse. Mostly I speak by whispering especially at work. I hope to get well soon.

I have lost my voice almost 4 weeks ago. It came back, I was normal and lost it again in the last two days. Now I have a bit of sore throat and taken lozenges. Today I went to the pharmacy to get some stronger medication so at the moment I am taking Otrivin for my blocked nose, 20 ml oromucosal spray and also Emphysemol (deep lung support) 3 times daily.
