Patient Comments: Knee Injury - Causes

What caused your knee injury?

My husband and I were hiking down a trail to get to the beach. It was a little steep, the first step I took, my foot slipped out from under me and I landed with my left knee behind me. My foot was under my butt. I had severe pain, swelling and weakness for about a week. I did home treatment. Now it has been about 7 months and when I go from sitting to standing I cannot bear weight for a minute or two, it almost feels like something is dislocated.

When I missed the last two steps on the stairwell at my home, I ended up twisting my right leg and falling directly onto the knee. The knee swelled on either side of the knee cap and I couldn"t straighten it nor could I bend it for the first three days after the injury. I am able to straighten it but it still feels really tight with a bit of pain when I try to bend it. I am now experiencing continuous aching in my femur and hip joint and calf. I am having trouble sleeping because of the constant aches that are radiating through the whole leg as well as my lower back sometimes.

I was told by my doctor that I possibly have an ACL tear. I go in for an MRI today. Not entirely sure how I got it. I was prescribed Mobic for the swelling, although it doesnt feel like it does very much. My knee is still swollen, and still painful. I will update my post about my experience.
