Patient Comments: Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) - Treatments

What was your treatment for irritable bowel syndrome?

I have experienced IBS for about 10 years. It seems to be aggravated by wine and sorbitol, among other things. Taking Metamucil every day helps. Also, I take glycopyrrolate by prescription. The attacks are some of the worst pain I have ever experienced and so I avoid anything that triggers them.

I am 68 years old, female, and have suffered with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) for 19 years. I have tried every diet, medicine, and test. I suffered with diarrhea, pain, nausea, and humiliation. I have even been in a IBS study. I found a doctor who would work with me and allowed me to try Premarin. I have been 'normal' for the past two months. Maybe this will help others.

I am a 78 year old female in excellent health except I was diagnosed 40 years ago with irritable bowel syndrome and Lactose intolerance. Have visited doctors all over the US. I have taken Lomotil as necessary when needed. Last year I visited family in Tennessee and was taken to Flintstone, GA to an herb doctor. He prescribed an herb concoction that I take after each meal and found that almost cured me. Last month I learned of Heather's Tummy Teas for IBS. Wow, what a relief. I don't drink it every day, but when I do, my tummy is calm, and no surprise diarrhea so far. I purchased the tea at my Health Food Store.
