Patient Comments: Hypercalcemia - Treatment

What was the treatment for your hypercalcemia?

Comment from: desparing, 75 or over Female (Patient) Published: November 20

I was originally diagnosed with sarcoidosis and treated with prednisone for some 7 years, which has left me with muscle weakness, fragile skin, easily bruised. I am unable to walk without aid, the sarcoidosis has been eliminated, but as yet the reason for the hypercalcemia is not known.

I developed hyperparathyroidism. Surgery is the only treatment. Mine was last summer. I had problems with hypercalcemia for 15 years before diagnosis. Doctors should routinely check PTH levels!
