Patient Comments: Herpangina - Treatment

What treatment or medications did your child receive for herpangina?

Comment from: liams mom, 0-2 Female (Caregiver) Published: July 21

My child was diagnosed with herpangina by his pediatrician. However, they only told me to give him Tylenol and/or Motrin. He ended up with multiply lesions on the back of his throat, so the pain medication was not totally controlling the pain. When I took him to the emergency room (ER), the physician there prescribed Magic mouthwash. This has Benadryl, Carafate and lidocaine in it. My son is 10 months, so he would just swallow it. This mouthwash helped a great deal.
