PRECAUTIONS: If you have any of the following health problems, consult your doctor before using this product: heart disease (e.g., heart failure, angina), irregular pulse (arrhythmia), high or low blood pressure. This product may make you dizzy or drowsy; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. Limit alcohol intake because it can intensify the dizziness or drowsiness effects of this product. The liquid preparations of this product may contain sugar and/or alcohol. Caution is advised if you have diabetes, alcohol dependence or liver disease. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about the safe use of this product. Hawthorn products are not recommended for use in children. Consult your doctor for more details. Hawthorn must not be used during the first three months (first trimester) of pregnancy. This product is not recommended for use during the last six months (second and third trimesters) of pregnancy. Consult your doctor before using this product. Because of the potential risk to the infant, breast-feeding while using this product is not recommended. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Before using this product, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription medications you may use, especially of drowsiness-causing drugs such as: medicine for sleep (sedatives), tranquilizers, anti-anxiety drugs (e.g., diazepam), narcotic pain relievers (e.g., codeine), psychiatric medicines (e.g., phenothiazines such as chlorpromazine or tricyclics such as amitriptyline), anti-seizure drugs (e.g., carbamazepine), muscle relaxants, antihistamines that cause drowsiness (e.g., diphenhydramine). Also report the use of heart/blood pressure medications such as: beta-blockers (e.g., atenolol, metoprolol), calcium channel blockers (e.g., diltiazem, nifedipine, verapamil), ACE inhibitors (e.g., captopril, lisinopril), angiotensin blockers (e.g., losartan, valsartan), digoxin. Check the labels on all your medicines (e.g., cough-and- cold products) because they may contain drowsiness-causing ingredients. Ask your pharmacist about the safe use of those products.
