GENERIC NAME: GUAIFENESIN - ORAL SPRINKLE CAPSULE (gweye-FEN-eh-sin)BRAND NAME(S): HumibidMedication Uses | How To Use | Side Effects | Precautions | Drug Interactions | Overdose | Notes | Missed Dose | Storage USES: This medication works to loosen phlegm and mucous in the lungs. It is used to relieve a dry, nonproductive cough and enables "coughing up" of mucous. HOW TO USE: Sprinkle total contents of capsule on a small amount of soft food (e.g., jelly, applesauce) just before eating. Capsule contents should not be crushed or chewed. The capsule may also be swallowed whole with a full glass of water. Drink plenty of fluids while taking this medication, unless your doctor instructs you otherwise. Do not take this medication for a chronic persistent cough such as occurs with smoking or asthma. If the cough lasts for more than one week, tends to recur, or is accompanied by a fever, headache or rash, consult your doctor.
