Goat's Rue

How does Goat's Rue work?

Goat's rue contains a chemical that may lower blood sugar when isolated from the rest of the plant. It is unclear if goat's rue has this effect when taken by people.

Are there safety concerns?

There isn't enough information to know whether goat's rue is safe. No adverse effects have been reported in humans, but fatal poisoning has occurred in grazing animals that ate large quantities of goat's rue.

Do not use goat's rue if:
  • You are pregnant or breast-feeding.
  • You have diabetes.
  • You are scheduled for surgery in the next two weeks.
