Gemfibrozil (Lopid) is a medication to reduce blood lipids and modify cholesterol levels. Gemfibrozil (Lopid) is prescribed to patients with elevated triglyceride levels high enough to cause pancreatitis, and to raise HDL cholesterol to prevent heart disease.
