PRECAUTIONS: Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: liver disease, diabetes, high blood cholesterol or fats (lipids), blood disorders (hemophilia), any allergies (especially to sulfa drugs). This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known whether this drug passes into breast milk. Avoid breast-feeding because breast milk can transmit HIV.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: This drug should not be used with the following medications because very serious interactions may occur: artemether-lumefantrine, astemizole, bepridil, cisapride, delavirdine, ergot drugs (e.g., dihydroergotamine, ergotamine), flecainide, midazolam, pimozide, propafenone, rifamycins (e.g., rifampin, rifabutin), certain "statin" drugs for cholesterol (lovastatin, simvastatin, atorvastatin), St John's wort, terfenadine, triazolam. If you are currently using any of these medications, tell your doctor or pharmacist before starting fosamprenavir. Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription/herbal products you may use, especially of: other anti-HIV drugs (such as amprenavir, efavirenz, indinavir, lopinavir/ritonavir, nelfinavir, nevirapine, saquinavir), anti-anxiety drugs (e.g., alprazolam, diazepam), azole antifungals (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole), calcium channel blockers (e.g., diltiazem, nifedipine, verapamil), dexamethasone, drugs to treat erectile dysfunction (phosphodiesterase inhibitors such as sildenafil, vardenafil), erythromycin, drugs that suppress the immune system (e.g., cyclosporine, tacrolimus, rapamycin), drugs for irregular heartbeat (e.g., amiodarone, IV lidocaine, quinidine), garlic supplements, methadone, anti-seizure drugs (e.g., carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin), tricyclic antidepressants (e.g., amitriptyline), anti-ulcer medicines (e.g., H2 blockers such as ranitidine, cimetidine, PPIs such as omeprazole, lansoprazole), warfarin. This medication may decrease the effectiveness of combination-type birth control pills. This can result in pregnancy. You should use an alternative form of reliable birth control while using this medication. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for details. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
