When I had dry socket I had excruciating throbbing pain and codeine didn't help much. This started the 3rd day after wisdom tooth was taken out. Now day 6, I saw the dentist, had the wound washed out with cold water spray, and then coated to numb it. I have to take antibiotics for 5 days. I do hope this does the trick, never want to have this again as it is so painful. I have not slept for 3 nights, am shattered and depressed. Was this comment helpful?Yes

I am into day 30 of dry socket. The pain is like none other. I have been reading stories of people in their dentist offices crying because the pain is excruciating. I too am one of those patients. I know why people are driven to suicide because of pain. It is nothing like I have experienced before, I think the difficult thing is not knowing when it will stop. I have the classic nerve pain along me entire left jaw and up into my ear. The ear pain is something else too. I even asked for a nerve block but they won't do it. Was this comment helpful?Yes

My dentist looked surprised after extracting the tooth in front of upper wisdom tooth. She said it was a dry socket. I never had one before. First 2 nights I took 2 painkillers as a precaution, today is 5th day and I haven't had any pain whatsoever. From 2nd day I rinsed with salty water 3 times a day. In fact this was the easiest extraction I've ever had. Was this comment helpful?Yes

I had extreme pain in my left ear, shooting up into my head. It's been 2 weeks since I had my tooth out, and it still really hurts. I went back last week, and the pain was incredible. The dentist put a gel in the dry socket, she gave me antibiotics, and now 1 week later, I have extreme pain, I don't know what to do.
