USES: This medication is a calcium channel blocker. It works by blocking calcium which relaxes and widens blood vessels. This medication is used to treat high blood pressure and chest pain (angina). Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks and kidney problems.
OTHER USES: This medication may also be used to treat chest pain (angina) and irregular heartbeats.
HOW TO USE: Take this medication by mouth with or without food once daily, or as directed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole. Do not crush or chew the tablet. Use this medication regularly in order to get the most benefit from it. Remember to use it at the same time each day. Do not stop taking this drug without consulting your doctor. Your condition may become worse when the drug is suddenly stopped. Your dose may need to be gradually decreased.
SIDE EFFECTS: Dizziness, headache, weakness, flushing, and nausea may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if this serious side effect occurs: swelling of the hands or feet. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: slow/fast/irregular heartbeat, trouble breathing, sudden weight gain, chest pain, mental/mood changes. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: stomach pain, yellowing eyes and skin, dark urine, unexplained fever. An allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
